Fresh From The Pulpit

Spiritual Independence
By Dr. Thomas Michael

Every 4th of July, the United States celebrates independence from tyranny, from poverty, and from the religious mindsets that imposed religion on its citizens without giving them a choice. The Word tells us to stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. And yet, like any addict, we walk right back into the same situations, self-imposing the yoke of bondage on ourselves again and again.  You either believe that Christ destroyed the yoke of bondage and rendered it powerless, or you don't. You must also be willing to denounce some things before you can fully walk in freedom. The scriptures says in 3 John 1:2, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."

Nothing is impossible for our God.  He is ready to loose you and give you freedom from the toxic levels of rejection, bitterness, unforgiveness, depression, prejudice, revenge, hatred, jealousies, envies, and strife that are the cause of all your emotional and physical problems. These toxins go undetected by X-rays and lab tests, and yet, are more destructive than any virus or bacteria. Quit looking for the answer to come from an outside source. If you are not healed on the inside first, made whole by embracing what Christ offers, you will never know true freedom.

Internal integrity is required for true liberty to be effective, valid, and lasting.

This is why the church is divided. People come and experience the healing balm of Gilead; but then, they refuse to give up the relationships that caused them to be in the mess they're in. There are also those who walk away from divine relationships because they lack the wisdom to understand why God sent an individual into their lives.

Until your heart is healed and Holy Spirit restores your wounded spirit, every relationship is just forced or false. Self-help groups link people with similar weaknesses and have them say, "Hey, my name is so and so and I'm an (whatever your problem is)," over and over. Repeatedly confessing your weaknesses does not produce overcoming power. YAHVEH is our healer, and He sent Yahshua to break the yoke of bondage that handcuffs us to our problems.

We live in an age where most things are judged by their appearance. However, looks can be deceiving. The Bible tells us in Isaiah 53:2-3 "For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.  He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him."  In the natural, Yahshua was not a handsome man; His looks did not impress many people. Nonetheless, the power He operated under was not dependent on external factors but rather, His internal integrity, His wholeness.

His purpose to show us how to return to that place in the Father where we are already whole was completed at the cross. Before the church can be as effective as it was destined to be, we must receive another perspective of the atonement. To do this, we must go back to Calvary where Judaism gave birth to the Messiah, Who gave birth to the spirit of adoption. That is the solution to all our problems.

Most of us are broken, shattered, fragmented, and hurting hearts, who need to be reminded that we are and have always been a chosen generation, adopted into God's family to show forth the praises of the One that called us out of darkness. The yoke has been broken; don't pick up the pieces and try to carry the burden. Let freedom ring!
