Like a proud Father who
gives his newborn the character, honour, and authority of a formal family name;
YHVH gave YAHshua the name that would shake the foundations of the earth. This
name had to embody the Father's character, to carry the weight of honour
of Shekinah; the precious Holy Spirit, and command the authority of the Kingdom of
heaven.
Many dictionaries render the name of the Almighty as YAHveh or YAHweh. The
Hebrew letter "vav" is represented in English by the letters "V" or "W". Hoowever, Jewish scholars lean towards the
"V". They believe that the letter used in Moses' time was the "V", giving us
the name of the Almighty as YAHVEH.
When Moses inquired about the name of the
Almighty, he was looking for the meaning of the name because the power to deliver
was in the name of YAHVEH. Moses knew that he could not show up before his
adopted family demanding that his people be released without knowing that the
God he was standing for had some power.
The name of our God, throughout the Scriptures, is
called holy and exalted. In the Old
Testament, the names of pagan gods are spelled out; like, Molech, Dagon,
Ashtoreth, Baal, Marduk and others. Yet, the name of our God, YHVH, has been
obscured by the traditions of men throughout history.
The four letters, YHVH, that
were used to describe the name of the Most High God are called the
tetragrammaton. The word "tetra" means a combination of four. Translators
throughout history have adopted the device used in most English versions of
rendering the name, YAHVEH, as LORD in capital letters to distinguish it from Adonai,
another Hebrew word rendered Lord, for which small letters are used. So it
became the tradition of men to substitute the common title LORD in place of His
sacred name. The following Scriptures, however, spell out His Name clearly for all to
see. Exodus 3:15 And God said moreover
unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, YAHVEH, God of
your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath
sent me unto you: this is
my name for ever, and this is
my memorial unto all generations. Isaiah 42:8, I am YAHVEH; that is my name;
I will not give my glory to another.
For YAHVEH, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God [He is jealous for
His holy memorial to those who revere His name. In every place where I cause my name to be remembered, I will
come to you and bless you.
For centuries, generations have called upon the
name of the LORD, only to find that He does not always answer. How can we truly
worship a God whose name we do not even know? I heard the Holy One say, To
see something you must expect something. To expect something you must know
something. We must know, to expect, and we must expect to see. He says
in Psalm 138:2, I will honour My Word
and seal it with my name. Joel 2:32 says, And everyone who calls on the name of
the YAHVEH, will be saved.
In His name there is power, healing, salvation,
authority, and dominion. Without knowing His name, we cannot see the fulfillment
of His promises from His word because His word is sealed by His name. We have
been basking in the anointing when He has been waiting for us to move into his
glory. The anointing is for those who do not have access to the source. The
anointing is simply a drop from the source, His glory.
It is ludicrous to think
that we can tap into the glory of the Almighty and not know His name. By
praying in agreement, we have inadvertently connected to the power of the name
of YAHVEH. This has brought us glimpses of the glory, but now we have His name,
and it is in His name that we unlock the glory. His name is the name above all
names, whereby men can be saved. To walk in the revelation and understanding of
His name, is to have no fear because perfect love casteth out all fear. Perfect love is agreement. His name means
agreement, and He is love. But we cannot know His true love without knowing His
name. The name, YAHVEH ,is the embodiment of God's character. His character and name are the
manifestations of His sovereign promise to redeem his people from the hand of
their enemies and to righteously judge all the enemies of Israel. Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots, and some
in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. What's in a
name?
