1 Chronicles 13:6 (NIV) "David
and all the Israelites with him went to Baalah of Judah (Kiriath Jearim) to
bring up from there the ark of God the Lord,
who is enthroned between the cherubim--the ark that is called by the Name." The Ark of the Covenant was
built according to the explicit design the Almighty gave Moses. It was a box made
of acacia wood covered in pure gold and the top cover was also made of pure
gold. Two sculpted angels facing each other with outstretched wings touching in
the center of the ark rested on the cover. The ark was used to house the stone
tablets containing the law that man was to live by. These tablets were written
by the very hand of YAHVEH. Spiritually, the ark represented the manifestation
of God's physical presence (the Shekinah) on the earth. Practically, God used
the Ark to tell the nation of Israelites when he wanted them to travel, and
when to stop.
The Ark was carried 2000 cubits ahead of the nation because touching
it was like signing a death warrant. According to one midrash (Jewish
commentaries that attempt to interpret scriptures in a thorough manner), it
would clear the path for the nation by burning snakes, scorpions, and thorns
with two jets of flame that shot from its underside (T. VaYakhel, 7). Another midrash says that rather than being
carried by its bearers, the Ark in fact carried its bearers inches above the
ground (Sotah 35a). The ark was pleasing
to the Almighty and worthy to carry the most holy ineffable Name or His
identity, which is what connects us to His character, identity, honour and
authority.
The children of Israel were chosen by God for the purpose of
bringing praise, honour, and glory to His name among the Gentiles. Our praise
should be made known before the heathen out there in the world. When we praise
YAHVEH in here it really isn't praise because we all know that is His name. It
is when you speak that holy name in front of those not a part of the family of
God that it is considered praise. Our worship must be of the caliber that the
Almighty desires to place His name upon it.
After thousands of years of
silence, the people of God have finally discovered the most holy name of the
only true God. His name means the God of covenant agreement who will
save His people from their oppression.
The whole relationship between YAHVEH
and His people is based on worship. It is founded on the dimensions and levels
of the Ark of Agreement. The Ark of Covenant or the Ark of Agreement was a
specific dwelling place that the Almighty agreed to dwell in. He was so
desperate for a people to worship Him that He agreed to house His glory in a
box. His glory filled the box and the light of that glory radiated and emanated
from that box into the Holy of Holies.
He's looking for boxes that he can house
his glory in. He's looking for boxes who can carry the light to a dark world.
He's looking for boxes who can handle the light. Don't be afraid of the light. Don't
be afraid of the brightness of the glory, which is released when you know his
name.
